A leading tribal chief from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Head of Bode George, has greatly rejected claims that show that the party is no longer feasible, describing statements such as “dreaming of one grade.”
George, a member of the Party Supervisory Board (BOT), made this comment during the performance of today’s politics, a television program channel aired on Monday. He responded to the view that PDP was now dead.
“It’s impossible. That is a dreamer. I tell you that they are the first grade dreamer,” George said. “In political management, ownership structure, friendship, what we have in PDP, they don’t have.”
He characterized PDP as “Iroko Political Party in Nigeria,” emphasized that his foundation remains “deep and intact” despite the new internal challenges.
George also reacted to the previous blockade from the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja by security operators, calling the action “embarrassing.” He told me that he was rejected into the place, equating the experience locked from his own home.
“It’s like returning to your home, and suddenly surrounded by the police. I think, ‘what happened in the world?'” Said the older statesman.
According to George, the incident had taught valuable learning party members. “There is no organization in the world without a crisis. The most reasonable is returning, closing the door, speaking of some truths of the house, debate, and united and that’s what we have done today,” he added.
PDP had previously moved his bot meeting to the center of Shehu Musa Yar’adua in the Abuja business center because of the presence of police personnel at the Wadata Plaza headquarters. This step was carried out in the middle of a scheduled meeting from the National Executive Committee (NEC) and BOT.
Speaking to reporters, George condemned the blockade and warned the federal government against actions that were able to incite the national crisis.
“This is ours. Is there a court order that stopped us to meet in our office? Nigeria watched. You want to turn us into North Korea or Russia? We will not allow it,” he said.
Although there was a disturbance, the party could hold the NEC’s 100th meeting later after the abolition of police barricades. Acting National Chair, Umar Damagum, stated that the only agenda of the meeting was to set a date for the next NEC meeting, where the problem around the National Convention and Leadership would be handled.
This session ended with a resolution to reunite on July 23. It also reiterated the position of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary.
The Governor of the State Bauchi and the Chairperson of the PDP Governor Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, told reporters that the presence of the police was intended to prevent criminals from disrupting the process. However, some party figures, including George and Bot Maina Chiroma members, criticized the spread as intimidation tactics.
Former PDP National Secretary, Umar Tsauri, also stated that police officers told them that they acted on “ordered from above.”
In a statement, the Federal Capital City Police Command (FCT) denied sealing the Secretariat, with sp spokesman Josephine Adeh clarified that the officers were deployed only to maintain order.
The leadership dispute that is taking place on the party, especially in the position of the National Secretary, remains unresolved. Both Senator Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye continued to claim the role. Although the Supreme Court decided on this problem in March, each faction maintains a different interpretation of the decision. The trial is further scheduled for September 22 at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
