The body of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch has been recovered from the wreckage of his yacht, the “Bayesian”, which sank off the coast of Sicily on Monday.
The search for the latest missing person, a woman, continues with specialist divers still searching the area.
So far, six bodies have been recovered, including Lynch’s. The latest discovery brings the death toll to six. The passengers were guests of Lynch, who was celebrating his recent acquittal in a major US fraud case.
Many questions remain about why the cruise ship sank, and the head of the company that built the ship says the tragedy could have been avoided. “Everything that was done shows a lot of mistakes,” said Giovanni Costantino, head of the Italian Sea Group.

Costantino told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that bad weather was expected, and all passengers were supposed to gather at a prearranged assembly point with all doors and hatches closed. He also pointed out that security camera footage showed lights on the ship’s mast going out, indicating a short circuit, which would mean the ship was taking on water.
“A Perini boat could withstand Hurricane Katrina, a category 5 hurricane. Do you think it can’t withstand a tornado from here?” he told the newspaper.
Costantino also said it was “good practice” to have a guard on the bridge when the ship was docked, and if there had been one, they would have seen the storm coming. “Instead, the storm took on water while the guests were still in their cabins… They were trapped, the poor people ended up like rats in a trap,” he said.
“Bayesian” was built by Perini Navi in โโ2008 and has a 75-meter mast, the world’s tallest aluminum mast. Reportedly, the mast is owned by the Lynch family.
Lynch was acquitted of all charges in a San Francisco court in June after being accused of an $11 billion fraud related to the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard.
