Gbarnga, Bong County – Bong County Superintendent Hawa Norris has come under public scrutiny for reportedly abandoning the newly renovated Superintendent Compound in Gbarnga, just months after it was officially dedicated for use.
An independent investigation conducted by this publication has confirmed that Superintendent Norris has not occupied the facility for approximately three months. The compound, which underwent extensive renovations at a cost of around US$340,000, was officially turned over to the county administration in early February this year.
Concerned citizens and local stakeholders have expressed disappointment over the superintendent’s decision to stay away from the residence without providing a formal explanation.
“It’s troubling that after spending such a significant amount of money to renovate the Superintendent Compound, it’s not being used as intended,” a Gbarnga resident said. “Taxpayers deserve accountability.”
When contacted, Superintendent Norris claimed that some renovation work is still ongoing, suggesting the structure is not yet fully ready for occupancy. However, she appeared reluctant to delve into details.
“Not everything people say on the radio needs to be addressed,” Norris said. “I don’t want hard time from anyone. Please leave me alone.”
Her remarks have sparked further concern among citizens, who argue that the lack of transparency undermines the purpose of the renovation project, which aimed to provide a suitable residence for the county’s highest local government official.
As of press time, the Superintendent Compound remains unoccupied, while residents continue to call for clarity and proper use of public resources.
