Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface was in action as Bayer Leverkusen started their Champions League campaign on a winning note, beating Feyenoord 4-0 on Thursday.
The Nigerian international, who was making his debut in the competition, gave a good performance.
In the 63rd minute he was substituted by Patrik Schick.
His Nigerian compatriot Tella was on the bench for the entire 90 minutes of the match.
The Rotterdam team did not start the match well, as they were 1-0 down in the fifth minute. Ramiz Zerrouki lost the ball in midfield, which was punished by Florian Wirtz, who fired a low, powerful shot into the bottom corner.

Leverkusen’s second goal came in the 30th minute. Boniface beat two Feyenoord players before producing a clever no-look pass to Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong, whose low cross found the team’s other full-back, Alejandro Grimaldo, at the far post. The Spanish full-back only needed to head home to make it 2-0.
Six minutes later, the score was 0-3. A counter-attack gave Frimpong space to get his second assist, as he sent a perfect cross to Wirtz, who finished it easily with his foot.
Grimaldo’s free-kick was headed in at the far post by Edmond Tapsoba, who headed it back only to miss thanks to poor intervention by goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther.
