Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for the arrest of former Federal MPs, Muhammad Kazaure.
In a statement posted, he posted on his X platform on Saturday, the former vice president described the action of the commission as “the dare to ignore the legal process.”
Atiku accused EFCC of operation beyond the limits of the constitution and involved in the pattern of oppression that was political motivated.
He equated Kazaure’s treatment with the popular social media commentator, Martins Vincent Otse alias Verydarkman, who was only arrested and then released after a widespread public protest.
He wrote: “This same harassment occurred in arrests that violated the law and detention of Mr. Martins Vincent Otse, whose freedom was only restored after the Nigerians raised their voices in collective anger.
“Now, Hon. Muhammad Kazaure, a former member of the House of Representatives and Critics who is bluntly over the administration of Tinubu, has been kidnapped in Kano, brought to Abuja, and detained without access to family or legal advisors. There is no accusation, no transparency, no explanation.”

The former vice president said the continuous silence of EFCC “deafening,” and suggested that the arrest of Kazaure not only violated the law but was also politically motivated.
“We have no choice but to conclude that Kazaure trials are a direct consequence of his fearless criticism and endlessly towards this government,” he added.
He reminded EFCC about his constitutional obligations, emphasizing that even where there is a valid reason to arrest citizens, the action must be carried out within the legal framework.
“EFCC is bound by the task to openly reveal the reasons for any arrest and may not use unlimited detention under the pretext of investigations,” the former VP warned.
At the time of this report, EFCC had not issued an official statement about the detention of Kazaure.
