Breaking News: Police fire tear gas at protesters in Eagles Square

Police officers, on Thursday morning, fired tear gas at scores of #EndBadGovernance protesters around Eagles Square, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to eyewitness reports, a handful of protesters came to the area in defiance of widely publicized information that the Abuja High Court had approved the Moshood Abiola National Stadium as a protest venue.

Recall that the High Court had issued an order in a case filed by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, restricting the August 1 hunger protest at the Stadium.

However, upon seeing the protesters, police officers who were trying to drive them away from the area, moved to make the area uncomfortable for the protesters by firing tear gas into the air.

Despite the confrontation, the protesters continued to sing and wave national flags and other placards.

The protesters were orderly and determined to express their feelings.

Security forces had previously prevented them from moving to Eagle Square.
