Breaking: Once again, the boat overturns in Niger, many feared dead

The tragedy on Saturday occurred in the area of the local government of Shiroro in the state of the Niger following a boat accidents where many are feared dead.

The emergency management agency of the State of Niger Nsema confirmed the accident, stating that the figures of the victims have not yet been ascertained.

It was said that the accident occurred at about 11:45 am on Saturday morning in Gunu while the boat was heading towards the Kwaita Zumba market, full of goods and an unruly number of mostly traders passengers.

Nsema, in a declaration by its director of information and special duties, Ibrahim Hussini, explained that the rescue efforts were lined up on the scene of the accident.

He said: “Nsema received a relationship of an accident accident with the boat that took place today, 26 July 2025, around 11: 45 in the morning when a boat full of goods and not specified number of passengers who headed towards Kwata, the Zumba market, turned upside down together with its occupants”.

He said that the driver and a few passengers were saved, adding that “one of them was admitted to the Kuta General Hospital and is currently receiving care”.

According to him, “at the time of filling this report, the number of victims could not be confirmed since the research and rescue operations are still underway by Banco Nsema officials, local divers and volunteers”.

The accidents with the coverage of the boat had occurred in the state a few months ago, with the authorities that ensured better times in advance.
