Buhari: the prime minister of India Narendra miles the former president of Nigeria

The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed profound pain for the death of the former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a statesman who played a fundamental role in strengthening diplomatic ties between Nigeria and India.

In a message of condolences published in his official X account (previously Twitter) on Monday, ways reflected on his personal interactions with the deceased Nigerian leader, praising the wisdom, warmth and unrivaled dedication of buhari to bilateral cooperation.

“Deeply saddened by the disappearance of the former president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari. I remember with affection our meetings and conversations on various occasions. His wisdom, warmth and unshakable commitment to India – The friendship of Nigeria has distinguished itself”, wrote the Indian Prime Minister.

He added: “I join 1.4 billion people from India to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, the people and the government of Nigeria”.

President Muhammadu Buhari died in London on Sunday 13 July 2025, at the age of 82 after a short illness. Previously he worked as Nigeria’s military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and returned to power as president democratically elected between 2015 and 2023.

His burial should take place later today in his hometown, Daura, in the state of Katsina, in accordance with Islamic rites.
