Remaining -Former President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Katsina on Tuesday on the Nigerian Air Force aircraft, marking the beginning of the last ritual for the late statesman who died on Sunday at a hospital in London at the age of 82 years.
Ball President Ahmed Tinubu led a high -level government delegation to Umar Musa Yar’adua Airport, Katsina, to accept the corpse. He joined the governor, minister, members of the national assembly, and other high -ranking government officials who came to pay their final respects.
The corpse of the deceased was flown from the British, on his way to his hometown in Daura, where he would be buried according to Islamic rituals.
At the Press Briefing on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, had announced Tinubu’s intention to personally accept Buhari’s body.
“The Ball President Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, will personally receive the remnants of former president in Katsina,” Idris said. “Upon arrival in Katsina, a short military ceremony will be held at the airport before the corpse was transferred to Daura. Jana’iza (funeral prayer) will take place afterwards, followed by a funeral at the residence of the President of the President.”

To honor the legacy of the deceased’s President, the Federal Government has stated the national mourning period and directed the opening of condolences in all ministries, departments and institutions, as well as the Nigerian Embassy and the High Commission around the world.
“The central condolences will also be opened at the Center for the International Conference of Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja,” Idris added.
He noted that tribute continued to flow from world leaders, reflecting the position and global impact of Buhari.
“The condolences that come from the heads of state and governments throughout the world are evidence of the global status and inheritance of the President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.
To ensure proper and well-organized separation, President Tinubu has approved the establishment of an inter-statement committee led by the Federation Government Secretary, Senator George Akume. The committee works in close coordination with the state government of Katsina and the Buhari family.
Idris further revealed that 25 members of the Federal Executive Council had been directed to attend Katsina for the funeral ritual and remained in the Fidau Prayer for the third day scheduled for Wednesday.
Buhari served as President of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, following his previous term as the head of the country’s military from 1983 to 1985. His death marked the passing of a major figure in Nigerian political history, and tribute continued to reflect the depth of his influence on the nation and the world.
