Buhari’s former aide Onochie has been exposed again after posting a fake photo of a woman threatening to kill fellow Nigerians in Canada.

Former aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, has again come under fire for spreading fake news after she posted a photo of a Georgia, US, lawmaker, Senator Nikema Williams, during her arrest in 2018. She claimed to be a Nigerian woman living in Canada, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, who threatened to poison the Yoruba and Benin people in a TikTok video.

Onochie, who has been accused of spreading fake news on several occasions in the past, posted a photo of Williams on his verified X account but the photo was immediately recognized by users who were quick to point out that the photo was not of Sunnberger.

While sharing the image, Onochie wrote:

β€œYou wouldn’t open your mouth in a society where the Police know their job and work without interference.

β€œAmaka will now explain to the Police his cunning plan to poison innocent Nigerians. He went too far with his #Obidiocy.”

Following the revelation of the fake photo, the administrators of Community X reacted with this post:

“This address is deliberately misleading people with the aim of causing ethnic strife. The woman in the photo is not Amaka, she is a senator in the US and the incident happened in 2018.”

In 2018, Onochie was caught in the crossfire of fake news when he shared an old photo and tagged it as a photo of then opposition presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar distributing cash and food parcels at a PDP-organized rally in Sokoto.

Following the protest, Onochie took to his Twitter account to share a photo of food parcels each containing N500 with the caption: β€œKEEP THEM POOR, THEN GIVE THEM HELP – ATIKU in Sokoto yesterday”.

However, later fact checks revealed that the images were fake and actually belonged to a Lagos-based Charity Foundation and had been circulating for years prior.

In the same year 2018, Onochie was caught in the act of spreading fake news and twisting facts after he uploaded a photo of a road in the US claiming to be the repaired Nasarawa-Jos Road, which was later found to be fake.
