BYE selection: Police Arrest Alleged Vote Buyers with ₦ 25 Million Cash in Kaduna

Security operations in the state of Kaduna have arrested a man suspected of being involved in the purchase of votes ahead of the BYE election on Saturday in the Federal Chikun/Kajuru electoral district.

The Kaduna State Police Command confirmed the arrest in a statement by his spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan. The suspect, who was identified as Shehu Patangi, was arrested in the early days of Saturday at a hotel along my descending road at Kaduna Metropolis, where he reportedly coordinated the distribution of funds to influence voters.

According to the police, a total of 25.9 million in cash was found from the suspect, which according to the investigators was set aside to compromise the selection process. During the preliminary interrogation, Patangi allegedly confessed and requested the relief of punishment.

Police Commissioner in Kaduna, Rabiu Muhammad, praised the cooperation of other security agents in the operation. He warned that there were people who were caught to try to undermine the election process, regardless of status, would face full legal weight.

Muhammad convinced the population of the readiness of the order to ensure maximum security before, during, and after the election. He urged the voters who qualified to train their franchise peacefully and without fear of intimidation.
