The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AFCON) less than two weeks before the tournament begins.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria secured a record-breaking 10th title in Rabat in July last year, and are set to defend their title this year.
This year’s tournament, which is also a qualifying round for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil, is scheduled to be held from March 17 to April 3.
But in a statement released on Thursday, CAF said they were rescheduling the tournament to July due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Morocco is scheduled to stage the finals for the third year in a row, but reports of a potential change of hosts have created anxiety among players and fans in recent weeks.
The tournament will now be held from July 25-August 16, he said, noting that “preparations for the tournament are underway”.
CAF did not say whether the host country would be changed.
