CAFCC: Rivers United, Bendel Insurance get tough second round opponents

Rivers United is set to face Etoile Filante from Burkina Faso in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Etoile Filante secured their spot in the next stage of the competition after a goalless draw against Senegal’s Casa Sports Ziguinchor.

The match took place at the AU Stade De La Paix De Bouake in Cote D’Ivoire on August 27. The Burkina Faso club qualified based on the away goals rule, having earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Senegal.

On the other hand, Rivers United received a bye in the first stage of the competition, which allowed them to progress directly to the second preliminary round.

Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance, Nigeria’s second representatives in the tournament, will face RS Berkane.

Bendel Insurance secured their qualification with a thrilling penalty shootout victory over ASO Chlef of Algeria, following a 1-1 draw on aggregate in the second leg.

These upcoming matches promise to be exciting, as the teams battle it out for a chance to move further in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Both Clubs are the only Nigerian side left in CAF Competitions following the elimination of Enyimba and Remo Stars from Champions League.
