In what has become the norm for many leaders and political groups in the country, local government leaders across Oyo State have openly urged Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State to contest the 2027 presidential election, stating that his style makes him the transformational figure Nigeria needs at the national level.
The call came on Tuesday when local government secretaries, chiefs of staff to council chairs, members of supervisory boards and special assistants from 33 local government areas gathered at the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, for a show of solidarity in support of the gubernatorial candidate.
Based on information from the Governor’s Special Advisor (Media), Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, a large group of officers and officials appointed on behalf of Governor Makinde were received by his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, in front of the Governor’s Office.

The council official, who described Makinde as “a symbol of purposeful leadership,” said the governor had demonstrated the capacity to rebuild Nigeria’s economy and improve the welfare of citizens if given the opportunity to lead at the federal level.
Chairman of the Oyo State Supervisory Board Forum, Ayodeji Oladepo, spoke on behalf of the group.
Responding to the rally, Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal thanked supporters for what he described as a sincere display of solidarity, and added that Governor Makinde was “eminently qualified” to lead Nigeria.
Makinde, who is currently serving his second term as governor, has not commented publicly on whether he intends to heed calls to run for higher office in 2027.
