The king and queen have begun a visit to the country three days to Italy, where they will celebrate the year of the Catholic joint, an event that only occurs every 25 years.
The trip will see Charles And Camilla Attend a series of public and diplomatic events in the capital, Rome and Ravenna City.
This year, Rome hopes to welcome the number of normal visitors – between 30 and 32 million, compared to an average of 10 million – when Catholics travel to the city for jobbell, which marks the time of pilgrimage, reflection, and spiritual renewal.
Jubilee, also known as the holy year, officially began on December 24, 2024 and will last until January 6, 2026.
With a big event throughout the year, Rome will be very busy – in such a way that the British foreign office has renewed its advice for tourists who plan to travel there.
This is everything you need to know.
What is Jobel?
The year’s joint year is the time for Catholics to “rebuild the right relationship with God, with each other and with all creations”, according to the Catholic Church in England and Wales.
Every year the joint joint starts with Pope Opened the holy door at St. Peter’s basilica on Christmas Eve in the Vatican city. This represents part of sin to the new grace and the new beginning. The Pope then opened four further holy doors that remained open throughout the year.
This year’s year, the Pope opened San Giovanni in Laterano (St. John Latane) on December 29, Santa Maria Maggiore (St. Mary Major) on January 1 and St Paul’s Outside the Walls on January 5.
For the first time, he also opened a holy door in prison. He opened one in the prison of the new Ribibbia complex in Rome on December 26 as a sign of hope for prisoners.
As a Pope, the Pope has the authority to declare any of the church door as a holy door.
The purpose of the pilgrims who travel to Rome during the year -old year is to pass at least one holy door.
Why did Royals leave?
Despite being the head of the British church, the king was determined to meet the Pope to mark the year of the joint yard, a meeting that will also mark “a significant advanced step in the relationship between the Catholic Church and the British Church”, according to the Buckingham Palace.
However, because the 88 -year -old whale recovered from Pneumonia, a private meeting between the two has been postponed.
Instead of going to the holy throne – the Roman Catholic Church government located in the Vatican – Charles and Camilla will make a historic visit to St Paul’s bacillika outside the wall and the king will become the first King of England to discuss sessions with Italian parliament.
During the last joint, in 2000, Queen Elizabeth II met Pope John Paul II in the Vatican.
Can I keep traveling to Italy this year?
Rome is expected “Very busy” throughout this year, especially when the larger jubilee event took place, the British Overseas Office (FCDO) said.
In renewal on March 17, it advised the British to go to ItalyEspecially the capital, to plan ahead.
The US Embassy in Italy has also updated its website to say: “Get ready for the crowd and the waiting time is extended for transportation and entering the location.
“You have to order accommodation, transportation, and attraction tickets long before arrival. The Rome public transportation system will be under pressure, and the route and regular schedule can change.”
There is an event that lasts almost every month, with the most registered for May and June.
Events targeted for certain groups of people, including families, workers, entrepreneurs and disabled people will take place, as well as special concerts and exhibitions at the Rome Museum.
Fcdo says people who want to take part in the yard or arrange pilgrimage will require a pilgrim card. It’s free to download and can be obtained on the Jubilee website or through an official application.
Although Italy is busier than usual, Roma and other parts of the country will look the best for Jobel, which is being built almost all year ago.
The capital unites billions of euros of state and European state funds to overhaul the tourist sites, transportation hubs, parks, streets, and even their trash bins.
Mayor Roberto Gualtiri told Reuters last year that Jubilee was “an opportunity that could not be missed to make structural changes … and change Rome”.
The 3,200 public construction work is scheduled to take place, including 322 projects that are considered important for jobbies.
Tips from a tour guide

He recommends that tourists visit big sites like the Vatican and Colosseum in the morning rather than in the afternoon and on weekdays rather than weekends.

Livia added that visiting “an unknown environment to see several more local areas” will also give tourists more authentic Roman experience without large crowds.
“Explore calm and charming paths in Garbatella, and lose yourself in Monti, home for eclectic boutiques and traditional Roman tractoria,” he said.
