CBN, Agof Dismiss Claims LG Fund Payment to APC Osun officials who are fired

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the General Federation (Agof) accounting firm firmly rejected the accusation that they secretly released the allocation of local government to fire the chairman and board members of all the progressive congress (APC) in Osun state.

Appearing before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, legal advisers for the two institutions rejected the claim as unfounded.

Osun’s state government advisor, ADETUNBI’s world, San, previously told the court that the funds under the litigation had been “illegally paid” into a special account that was opened in Uba for APC officials between Thursday and Friday – contrary to the court orders to maintain the status quo.

Adetunbi accused that “CBN and Agof paid the funds deducted through a special account that was opened to the Chairperson and members of the APC Council at the United Bank for Africa, Uba,” added that the state government had to rush to the High Court in the State of Oyo to get an emergency detention order to the release of Osune which is currently the Oseunse court.

However, advisors for CBN, Murtala Abdulrashheed, San, and advisors for Agof, Tajudeen Oladoja, San, strongly denied these accusations, describing them as mere speculation. They insist that there is no evidence to support the claim and urge the court to dismiss it.

The two defendants also opposed the Osun government application that tried to make the case file be transferred back to Osogbo, on the contrary with the reason for the accelerated hearing in Abuja, noting that the term of office of the APC officials fought would disappear on October 22.

Judge Emeka Nwite, after hearing the argument of all parties, postponed the trial until October 16 over the decision of the plaintiff’s motion that challenged the territorial jurisdiction of the Abuja Court to hear the problem.

In its substantive lawsuit, the Osun state government sought “temporary orders, arresting the defendants from opening, operating, or maintaining local government accounts that support the chairman and members of the council who have been fired or issued from the office by the Federal High Court’s decision.”

He also asked the court to arrest CBN and Agof “from a denial allocation to the chairman and member of the APC council who was fired.”
