The Council of West Africa exams [WAEC] He outlined the key schools of the structures must provide in advance on the full migration of the examination of the Senior School certificate of West Africa to computer -based tests by 2026.

The head of the exams, Waec, Mr. Lucky Njoagwuani revealed it on Thursday during an awareness program in Port Harcourt.

According to him, schools must implement a minimum of 250 functional laptops with 10 %backup, a solid computer server capable of simultaneously supporting 250 systems and a configuration of the local network.

Other mandatory requirements include functional air conditioners and lighting, supply of uninterrupted electricity, a backup generator with at least 40kva, CCTV cameras and a detention room or a reception structure for candidates.

Njoagwuani observed that the CBT move would reduce logistical costs, improved the safety of the exams and expanded accessibility.

“We started with the fourth series of our private candidate exam about two years ago, and it was happened. The examination of this year’s private candidates, second series, is completely based on computers without any option for pen and paper. Invariably, even the examination of the candidates of the next year school will be completely based on computers,” he said.

The Zonal coordinator of Port Harcourt of Waec, Mr. Adenira-Amusan Akim, urged schools to start improving their ICT centers in line with Waec standards, underlining that the CBT system “is here to stay”.

He added that schools unable to meet the requirements would have been assigned to the designated centers.

“Waec will not lower the standards. Any school that wishes to host the exams within its premises must provide the equipment and infrastructure required,” said Akim.

Speaking also, the President of the State of the Rivers of the National Association of Private Schools, Sunday Jaja, encouraged the owners of the schools to exploit the financing opportunities of the Bank of Industry and the MSME intervention fund of the Federal Government to finance the transition.

“Technology is playing a vital role in modern education. This initiative will allow schools to keep up with current trends and prepare students for digital era,” said Jaja.

The sensitization event was organized jointly by Teatro Systems Ltd, Napps and Partner, including the Bank of Industry, HP, Lenovo and Canon.

The highlight was the donation of Gadget ICT, including computers, printers and tablets, to schools through a lottery draw.
