CDS Musa urged Nigerians to get combat skills amid security challenges

Defense Chief of Staff, General Christopher Musa, has advised the Nigerians to obtain battle and defense skills as part of the steps to protect themselves in the face of increasing security threats throughout the country.

Speaking in television politics Channels today on Thursday, the Head of Defense equated martial arts training, such as karate, taekwondo, and judo, with important life skills, in addition to driving and swimming.

“Learning combat skills must be seen as a survival instinct, such as swimming or driving,” Moses said, emphasizing their interests regardless of whether this nation fought. He noted that in some countries, training in such skills is mandatory.

The CD further proposes that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) includes unarmed combat training into its program, with the reason that this initiative will better prepare young graduates to defend themselves against potential threats.

“NYSC has been reduced to three weeks, but must focus on youth training to defend themselves,” he said, adding that situational awareness and basic survival training are very important in the world today.

Moses underlined the importance of security awareness, showing that defending himself, swimming, and driving is an important competence that should not be accepted just like that.

“These are things that we should not underestimate because they are preparing you for the future. The world we are experiencing now is dangerous. We have individuals who don’t mean good people. They kill for any reason,” he warned.

The Head of Defense urged the Nigerians to take personal responsibilities for their safety while staying alert and reporting suspicious activities in their community.
