Defense Chief of Staff (CDS), General Chris Musa, has asked the Nigerians to use social media to promote public awareness and share intelligence as part of their responsibilities and efforts to combat terrorism,
Extremism and insecurity in this country.
Moses, who made a call during a multi-sector conference one day about against extremist, rebellion, and terrorism that was held in Maiduguri, Borno state, on Saturday, urged the participants, especially students, to take positive profits from social media for public awareness, knowledge, promoting peace, security forces, and against incorrect information that triggered extreme narratives.
The head of the Army said the role of citizens in national security could not be underestimated because the security institution could not exist anywhere at the same time, and urged the public to be vigilant and share intelligence that could help prevent attacks.
“Silence is no longer an option. People are important stakeholders in intelligence meetings. Sometimes, all that is needed is one telephone call to make a difference,” CDS said.
“With more than 70% of the northeast population is young, your role is very important in reclaiming the community of violence and promoting unity.

“Students are torch carriers of new values. Through peace advocacy, peer influence, research, and collaboration with security institutions, you can help protect your school and community from indoctrination, radicalism, and rebellion,” said General Musa.
The Head of Defense also announced the inauguration of students to the code of task of extremism of violence ‘Save 1 and 2 “, describing the initiative as a step towards building a network of young peace ambassadors dedicated to against radicalization at the grassroots.
Talking to a new Save member, Moses said:
“Walk to speak. Be an example you are looking for in others. Lead with integrity, commitment, and courage.
“Don’t despair. Let’s use social media, TV, and radio to fight extremist narratives and promote peace. The future is bright when the youth rises for peace,” he said.
