Chido Obi-Martin makes history: the 17-year-old becomes the youngest Premier League starter for Manchester United

At a historic moment for one of the most famous football clubs in the world, Chido Obi-Martin forged his name to the history of Manchester United on May 4, 2025, when he became the youngest player to start a Premier League match for the Red Devils with only 17 years and 156 days.

The Danish-Nigerian striker received a place in the initial XI by the Manager Ruben Amorim in the exciting defeat of United 4-3 against Brentford. Despite the narrow defeat of the team, all the eyes were in the adolescent prodigy whose inclusion indicated a new bold chapter in the club’s youth development philosophy.

Obi-Martin’s trip to this record debut is unique and impressive. Born in Denmark of Nigerian parents, he began his football education with KB Copenhagen before being collected by the Arsenal Academy in 2022.
