The custody battle between Afrobeats star David Adeleke aka Davido and the mother of his second child, Sophia Momodu, has heated up following her statement on social media.
Davido took to social media to give a detailed account of what happened between the two on Monday.
The story began days before Davido’s celebrated wedding to his long-time partner, Chioma Rowland, when he filed a lawsuit against Sophia for custody of their child, Imade.
Sophia, who rejected the move, filed a counter-affidavit against Davido, saying that he was unfit to be given custody of the seven-year-old child.
He gave several reasons including the death of Davido’s son, Ifeanyi, who drowned in his swimming pool for refusing to let go of the girl.
She insisted that the singer was unfit to be given custody of their daughter because he was always unavailable and did not have the ability to properly care for her.
He added that he would expose his daughter to dangerous bad habits including smoking.
As the feud escalated, Davido took to social media to share details of his struggles with his baby bump over the custody of their daughter.
The musician also explained why he acted a certain way, especially towards Sophia.
She wrote: βAs Sophia’s second trimester of pregnancy drew to a close, she painfully announced to me that she was on a family trip.
“My mind was confused, and so was my soul. However, I soon realized that there was nothing that could be done to change my status as a father-to-be.
“I knew I wasn’t ready to be a father. However, I was adjusting to the reality of my new situation and the consequences of my past personal indiscretions.
“I am determined to be a good father. I also think that my mistakes are not enough reason to make me a husband.
“I’m only 21 years old. So I decided to be a responsible father without having to be a husband to the mother of my baby. I never fell in love with Sophia and never intended to get married.
“Without knowing for sure that I was the biological father of the baby, I entrusted Sophia to a private hospital for pre- and post-natal medical care. An apartment in Lekki was rented for 2 years, and I paid for it.
βThe burden of medical expenses, food, transportation, and various other expenses rested on my shoulders. None of Sophia’s family members, including Uncle Dele Momodu, were willing to help or guide Sophia.
“I am a property owner in Lekki and I allowed Sophia to stay in the house because she claimed she did not know anyone in Lagos and her father was dead while her mother lived in Abuja. Sophia was a complete vagrant with no money, no education or career.
βMy compassion, ignorance, naivety and poor judgment had made me the victim of a much older woman with a super cunning mind mixed with a cruel and evil nature.
βI was accused but calmly accepted my responsibility for the sad misfortune that caused me to sit with Sophia on a plane that was going nowhere.
βAll this time I was just being generous to Sophia without knowing for sure that I was the father of the baby she was carrying.
βOn May 14, 2015, Sophia gave birth to her baby named Imade. After Sophia gave birth to the baby, DNA testing medically confirmed that I am indeed the biological father of our child named Imade.
βOnce this status was achieved, Sophia began to place maximum financial demands on me. I bought all the baby supplies and furnished her apartment. Sophia knew how to spend money, but did not contribute one bit to my huge expenses.

βNo one in her family contributed, not even fake coins, to Imade’s birth costs.
“Uncle Dele Momodu, who is now a pompous moralist, never visited Sophia or even gave a simple greeting card to Imade or her mother. For months that Sophia stayed in my house when she claimed she had no family in Lagos, Uncle Dele Momodu and his bossy wife never showed up at my house to greet either of us.
βWhen everything was fine, Sophia told me a lot of things about her uncle Dele Momodu that I donβt need to recount here.
“And he never invited me to come visit him and I don’t know that he ever visited him while he was staying at my house. He always explained that visits to Uncle Dele were unnecessary and unimportant.
βUncle Dele Momodu never liked, and still doesnβt like Sophia. Heβs just acting important now because Sophia has a baby from a pretty well-known family and Davido is famous.
“Mrs Momodu’s case is increasingly confusing to me. Why didn’t she feel the need to move into Sophia’s apartment to help her and show her the tricks of motherhood when Imade was born.
“She never visited Sophia and her baby until December 2015. She gave Sophia no attention, no love, no financial support. Now, at 7 months old, and a child with special medical needs, Mrs. Momodu rushed to Lagos Airport to embarrass herself as a mother: Mrs. Momodu is clearly not a good person.
“He took the time and effort to prevent my daughter and I, Imade’s biological father, from traveling abroad to attend appointments at the American Hospital, Dubai. At the time of her death in November 2015, Imade had been rushed to this medical facility in Dubai, where she received supportive and adequate care, and was returned to Nigeria, without any additional travel.
βThen what is it that suddenly prompted Mr. & Mrs. Momoduβs dangerous fear or love for Sophia? I strongly feel that this couple never loved Sophia or her late father. They also hated her mother, and perhaps were jealous that Sophia was once a mother, and therefore, wished that Sophiaβs daughter, who is also my daughter, should perish in vain.
“Where is the inherent value in this callous human tactic that is directly aimed at preventing a child from receiving necessary medical care on board a ship after her biological father, David Adeleke, the child’s grandfather, and all of my siblings who are Imade’s uncles and aunties were booked to fly on this important medical trip that we had included in a relaxing family vacation? Sophia is not a member of our family, period.
“Of course, Sophia was not with Imade when she first visited Dubai, but Imade was soon returned to Nigeria. And there is nothing that says Sophia should not come to Dubai except that I stated that I did not want the trip to appear to be a couple’s vacation. Sophia is not my wife and I refuse to allow any act to conspire to make us appear to be a couple.
βHe seemed unable or unwilling to pay for her trip to Dubai. Furthermore, her arrogant Uncle, unfortunately, refused to volunteer to pay for her trip to Dubai. I never suggested to an elder what he should take on as his personal responsibility if he indeed cared about Sophia because of his strong involvement in the strange relationship we wanted to build. Mr. Momodu never bought a ticket but wanted to force his way into joining my family on this trip to Dubai.
βDangerous lights were flashing red fiercely around my daughter Sophia and me. Uncle Dele Momodu and his wife were the energy providers who supported the idea of ββmy daughterβs unnecessary death. I say it loud and clear now, if my daughter dies, this strange couple is the most responsible party.
βMr Dele Momodu should leave me and my family alone! His daughter is not the one who gave birth to my baby, and he has been Sophiaβs uncle too many times to have any moral authority to rule the heart and soul of this matter. Sophia has never formally introduced him or his wife to me, at any time. Why are they now crowding my place and my daughterβs place?
βIn May, the same month Imade was born, Sophia was living in her luxury apartment that I rented for 2 years at a very expensive cost. The baby is healthy. And she seems happy. I will take care of all Imadeβs financial needs and still pay Sophia a living allowance of 300,000 Naira plus electricity bills.
βWithin weeks, Sophia disappeared and lusted after the streets of Lagos, especially its glitzy nightlife. She would often leave home to go to nightclubs, drink and live a life of debauchery and deviancy. She would sleep all day and party all night. When she was awake, she was addicted to her phone and marijuana. She paid no attention to her baby and seemed to hate motherhood and parenthood.
βImade was in her custody for 2 months straight, without resistance and without disturbance, until her baby fell seriously ill in July. Imade cried non-stop for 48 hours. She was rushed to the hospital and her condition baffled medical experts. Several tests were conducted on her and then on her mother. The medical report, attached here (Exhibit 1), proved that Sophiaβs blood was contaminated to the maximum level with marijuana and that she had infected her child with a complex medical condition related to the use of alcohol and especially marijuana through breastfeeding. The problem point for Imade was her lungs. She had difficulty breathing mainly due to the contaminated breast milk and the severity of the βSecond Smokeβ of marijuana that the poor child inhaled.
βYou keep bringing up my sonβs death every now and then, just to remind us of the tragedy that haunts us every day of our lives. Imade will grow up to see me fighting for him.. for now you can have him.. PS he wonβt be a child forever.. enjoy him.β Imade Aurora Adeleke! Your father loves you!β
