China has received a green light from the Nigerian government to start establishing an electric vehicle (EV) factory in Nigeria, a step that is expected to significantly deepen bilateral bonds and support the country’s push for industrialization and clean energy.
During the visit to the Minister of Solid Mineral Development, Dr. Dele Alake, on weekends, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, emphasized strategic interests to encourage closer cooperation between the two countries, especially in utilizing the vast Nigerian -dense mineral resources.
Ambassador Dunhai expressed optimism about the potential of Nigeria, describing it as “a large country blessed with extraordinary natural resources,” and reiterated that “China always puts Nigeria in a very important position in its foreign policy.”
According to a statement issued on Sunday by a special minister’s assistant in the media, Segun Tomori, discussion during a visit focused on industrial collaboration, with China outlines plans to build an electric vehicle factory in Nigeria as part of its broader investment objectives.
Ambassador Dunhai given the recent high-level diplomatic involvement between Tinubu Ball President and Chinese President Xi Jinping during the visit of the Tinubu state to China. “The two leaders agreed to improve bilateral relations into comprehensive strategic partnerships, creating new opportunities for cooperation,” he said.
In response, Dr. Alake reiterated Nigeria’s openness to credible investors, especially those who were committed to appreciating the addition of the country. He asked the Chinese company to move beyond mineral extraction and invest in full cycle operations-from mining to processing and manufacturing.

“Over the years, our minerals have been exported raw to trigger foreign industrialization. It must change. We now prioritize local processing to encourage the development of Nigeria. For example, with Lithium’s abundance, we want to see the manufacture of electric vehicles and local batteries,” the Minister said.
Supporting this call, Ambassador Dunhai promised China’s support for the initiative to add Nigeria’s local value, noted that “plans are being carried out to establish an electric vehicle factory and other manufacturing businesses in Nigeria.”
He continued, “Chinese companies have been very involved in the Nigerian mining sector, from exploration to processing. We aim to deepen this collaboration, especially in line with the eight priority fields of President Tinubu, especially economic diversification through dense minerals.”
He also convinced the Nigerian government about China’s commitment to ethical business practices. “The Embassy and the Chinese government always warned Chinese companies operating in Nigeria to comply with regulations and regulations, implement corporate social responsibility, and comply with environmental standards and safety,” he said. “We do not have tolerance for illegal mining and are ready to work with the Nigerian government to bring suspects to criminals to court.”
In his remarks, Dr. Alake acknowledged Nigeria’s historic and positive relations with China but expressed concern over the negative activities of several Chinese people who operate outside the law.
“We have taken action against illegal operators, including some Chinese citizens. While isolated, such incidents damage the good work of many obedient Chinese companies. We need your cooperation in ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to court,” he said.
Alake also highlighted the positive impact of the new mining Marshal – this was mobilized – an enforcement unit made to curb illegal mining. He explained that their activities had increased compliance with regulations throughout the mining industry and sent strong signals to local and foreign operators.
With the current production of electric vehicles and solid mineral collaboration at the horizon, this visit marks a new chapter in developing economic relations between Nigeria and China, offering a significant promise for job creation, technology transfer, and sustainable industrial development.
