The Lagos State Government has confirmed 17 cases of cholera in the state.
The state government had earlier identified 350 suspected cases in 29 districts across the state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs at the Ministry, Tunbosun Ogunbanwo.
He said that 15 deaths were recorded as a result of the cholera outbreak.
Abayomi added that the government had activated the Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the Mainland Hospital in the Yaba area of ββthe state.
βThe results of examinations and laboratory tests so far confirm Cholera subtype O-1. This subtype is associated with more severe disease. The pattern of new cases per day varies in each LGA, in line with our ongoing surveillance and monitoring updates.

βWhile this number is an increase from the number published 3 days ago, cases in previously affected LGAs have now reduced drastically due to our intervention and surveillance efforts, however, we recorded several new cases in previously unaffected LGAs, which indicates the need for citizens to strictly adhere to preventive, personal hygiene and environmental measures.
βThe Environmental Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency of the Ministry of Environment has collected water source samples, food and beverage samples across the affected LGAs, while facility inspections are ongoing.
βWe provide cholera kits at health facilities across the state. “Our efforts to control this outbreak also include distribution of Oral Rehydration Solution and public health education campaigns,” the commissioner said.
