The Chrisland School has become the champion of the Soccer Challenge of the Daniel Oreoluwa Adebiyi Foundation (DOA) 2025, after an All-Chrisland final that saw the team A Team B in a closely disputed 2-1 victory.
Now in its fifth edition, the annual tournament was established to honor the memory of the late Daniel Oreoluwa Adeniyi, a young promising soccer player and appreciated member of the Chrisland school community.
The one -day event was held in Lagos and saw a notable increase in participation, highlighting its growing relevance in youth sports development.
This year’s competition had six teams, Chrisland School A, Chrisland School B, Leeland, Honeyland, Supreme Education Foundation and Ferscoat, divided into two groups for the preliminary stages of Redondo.
After intense Knockout groups and matches, both Chrisland teams advanced to the final, giving an exciting game that showed skill, teamwork and tactical discipline.
Speaking in the presentation of the medal, Dr. Mike Adebiyi, CEO of D.OA, reflected on the importance of the event.
“Daniel Oreoluwa was our last son and a real football talent. Before his death, he had assured a place in a European football academy and was ready to start his trip after the final exams. Unfortunately, he never succeeded. In honor of his passion and dreams, we launched this tournament,” he said.
Dr. Adebiyi also revealed the vision of the Foundation to expand competition throughout the country and, ultimately, sponsor the most valuable player (MVP) to a European Football Academy.
The National Association of Sports Writers of Nigeria (Swan), Isaiah Benjamin, represented by the association’s treasurer, Femi Amusan, praised the organizers.
“This tournament goes beyond football. It is a celebration of unity, resistance and immense potential of our youth. Football teaches the most important lessons of life: teamwork, discipline, respect and perseverance,” he said.
In an outstanding individual performance, Onunkwo Chukwuebuka Jr. John was appointed MVP of the tournament for the second time.
