Monrovia, Liberia, September 3, 2024 β The General Overseer of the Liberia Christian Evangelical Ministries, Bishop Philip Nagbe, has called on the Boakai-Koung administration to fulfill campaign promises made during the 2023 elections.Β
Bishop Nagbe observes that eight months into President Boakaiβs term, little progress has been made in delivering on key promises, such as job creation, road construction, and infrastructure development.Β
In a press briefing at the Liberia Christian Evangelical Ministries headquarters on September 1, 2024, Bishop Nagbe reminded that the administration had promised to attract investors to Liberia. Still, there has been little movement in this area since Mr. Boakai took office.Β
He continues that due to the Presidentβs failure to meet his commitments, citizens are left struggling for basic necessities and school fees for their children, which he finds troubling for the nationβs development.
Bishop Nagbe emphasized that if the current government is unable to improve its own situation, it is unlikely to address needs of ordinary Liberians.Β
He also criticizes the Unity Party-led government for ignoring civil servantsβ demand for salary increments, adding that the administrationβs lack of responsiveness is detrimental to its reputation.Β
However, he recommends that the government improves its performance by fulfilling promises, attracting investors, creating jobs, and increasing civil servantsβ salaries. He believes that these are critical areas that need focus. Editing by Jonathan BrowneΒ
