Registrar of the Joint Acceptance and Matriculation Council (Jamb), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede firmly rejected the targeted conspiracy accusation of candidates from the southeast, following technical problems during 2025 Tertiary Unified Matriculation Examination (UTME).
At a high -level management meeting held on Wednesday before the release of the results of the Scheduled UTME, Prof. Oloyede discussed increasing public concerns and political reactions to the damage, which mainly affected the five southeastern states and parts of the lagos.
“Every candidate who registers for UTME is a Nigerian. There is no room for discrimination or conspiracy,” said the Registrar, in response to the accusation that Jamb had deliberately sabotaged the results of the Southeast Zone.
Technical problems, which interfere with the exams of more than 300,000 candidates, have triggered regional bias accusations, encouraging protests from students, parents, and parliamentary members. Especially the vocals are members of the Southeast Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives, who on Tuesday issued a spicy statement that called the incident as “national shame.”
MPs, led by Igariwey Iduma Enwo, demanded a national examination can be canceled and proposed a new date to sit new. They also called for the resignation of Prof. Oloyede and direct suspension of key personnel responsible for digital operations and logistics of Jamb.
“Clerk Jamb is said to be a good person,” The statement reads, “But leadership must bring consequences. In every civilized democracy, resigning to allow an honest review is a respectable thing to do.”
During the meeting, the council observed the silence of one minute for a candidate who was reported to have died during the examination process, a tragic reminder of high bets and victims of the emotional system of entering the University of Nigeria. Prof. Oloyede described the incident as “very regrettable,” and expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
Apart from the pressure, Prof. Oloyede urged to refrain and understand, repeat the commitment of Jamb to transparency, justice, and improvement. He stressed that mistakes, although unfavorable, not deliberate actions but technical problems that are now being handled.
“We continue to improve our system to ensure reliability and inclusiveness. The challenges faced are not strange for any group, they are technical, not tribes,” he said.
