With a rainy and pulsating rain encountered full of drama and tension, Rangers International triumphed on their ferocious “oriental rivals”, Heartland FC of Owerri, ensuring a fought victory in the round of 32 of 2025 President Federation Cup.
The game, played in a crowded stadium of Awka City, Awka, Anambra State, ended 1-1 after the regulation time, forcing a unnerving penalty shooting that saw the “flying antelopes” prevail.
Ekeh Ekendedilichukwu, speaking on behalf of Ilechukwu, praised the performance of his team, recognizing the intensity of the derby.
“It was a difficult game as expected, but we gave our best to emerge victorious compared to our neighbors, Heartland. We continue to work on the team since our goal remains going to win the trophy for the seventh time,” said Ekenessilichukwu.
The Ranger now await their next opponent, Benin City’s FC Insurance FC in the 16 round.
