While the nation continues to face multifaceted security challenges, a former commissioner for lands and investigations in Benue’s state, Hon John Tudu attributed on Wednesday the main cause of the threat to the total collapse of the administration of the local government by state governors despite the full autonomy supported by the Supreme Court
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on the state of the nation, the aspiring governor of once under the aegis of the Democratic Party of people, PDP, said that there would be no end of the devastating hosicure in the country unless full autonomy is granted the third government ties in line with the law of the earth.
Hon. Vdudu, who observed that the collapse of the administration of the local government by state governors was the main cause of the growing insurrection activities in the country, said that no quantity of resources put in place would have ended the threat until the 774 local governments in the country were not made functional since the federal government has allowed the states to function independently
According to him, “today, most of the time, governors will blame the Federal Government and the reasons to blame the Federal Government will be that the Federal Government is that to control the security agencies.
“Many of them will ask and support the independent police at state levels, but the real issue of security, today, if governors decide that there should be no insecurity in this country, there will be no insecurity.
“Governors are actually responsible for the housing that is happening in the country and the reason is very simple: the third level of the government, which is the local government, does not work. The president, in his own wisdom, through the office of the general prosecutor of the Federation, went to court to guarantee autonomy to the local government system.
According to Hon Tudu, who was commissioner under them the governor Gabriel Suswam, “there is only one thing that holds together the 36 governors of this country, namely ensuring that the third level of government does not work. When it comes to this, all 36 governors speak in one voice, because they feel their interest is threatened if the third Tier of the government is allowed to work, which is the closest to people.
“So, if today the 36 governors join for the interests of the citizens of the country who have chosen to serve them, insecurity will end. But as long as the third level of government does not work properly, insecurity, regardless of the efforts that security agencies will undertake, will not be able to face this problem of insecurity.
“The truth is that the third level of the government has
The former commissioner who praised President Bola Tinubu for his efforts in the establishment of the autonomy of the local government by approaching the Supreme Court stressed that there was no way to force the application of governors due to the establishment of the land, but urged citizens to take their destiny in their hands and guarantee full implementation in their respective respective states
According to him, “when the president went to the highest court in the country, but we are in a democratic society. There is little that the president can do. The president went to court and the court has given judgment. It is left for us, the citizens of this country, to amplify the president’s efforts in facing and resolve the needs of the third level of the government.
“When governors begin to realize that people are becoming aware and that if they do not allow the third level of government to work, people will rebel against them. They will begin to allow the third level of government to work.
“So, the president has done their part. They are the citizens of Nigeria who will take the place of what the president has done.
Speaking of the clamor for the State Police, Hon Tudu fired the agitators, saying that it was for political reasons that should not be allowed in the national interest
According to him, “the reason for the clamor for the State Police by the governors would be only to use it to persecute their political enemies.
“If you look at the posture of governors in the country today and authorizes them to have the state police, therefore it means that democracy itself will not exist in Nigeria as a country. Therefore, Nigeria as a country is not mature for the state police because the people we have elected as a leader, they do not have the temperament to allow them to set their independent policy. It will only become a tool for perceived policies”
Speaking of the game of guilt between the governments of the state Benue and Nasarawa for the continuous attacks in Benue, the former commissioner admitted that “the government of the state of Nasarawa shared in fault, but it is not completely the real situation it is.
According to him, “as I said before, if the local governments are functional, whether it is Nasarawa, whether it is Benue, whether it is Borno, that it is Kano, that it is Katsina, the insecurity will be faced. But you see the blame for the government of the state of Nasarawa only because this attack has happened, the government of Nasarawa, has not come across.
“The lack of empathy is the reason why they are blamed. But it is not that the government of the state of Nasarawa is directly responsible for what is happening in Benue, because they are criminal elements. They come from different parts of the country. They come together to perform.
“But if there is an intelligence meeting and that intelligence is provided to the government of the state of Nasarawa to find out where these people come from their state and cannot act on it, they share the fault because they have that intelligence at their disposal and refuse to act”.
