Senator Henry Seriake Dickson [representing Bayelsa West] He has renewed his request for Ranch from the Federal Government to quickly accelerate as a solution to the perennial clashes of Herder for farmers across the country.
His position was contained in a message of condolences to the governments and people of Benue and plateau for the most recent killings in the United States.
“The time has come for everyone to see this problem as an existential Nigerian question of national security that must be addressed, deviant of ethnicity, religion, politics and feelings that normally color national speeches.
“This was the reason why, on the floor of the Senate, contributing to a motion on this issue, I urged the Senate to decide to implement Ranch, support and mandatory orientation also for the shepherds, followed by the ban on the pasture open at national level.
“Using the Ministry of Gibrear, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Nigeria and other institutions, we must create a mechanism and funding for the mandatory ranch and the supporting policy for cattle, shepherds, aquaculture and all other agrees throughout the country”
“A plan must be taken to strengthen all the safety agencies and the leaders of the community to work together to combat and eliminate all the bandits and criminals from our areas and rural forests and impose the ban on open pasture throughout Nigeria. The Senate has adopted the motion.
“We have to do it as a national imperative without politics or feelings,” said Senator Dickson.
He continued: “I spoke with my brother and friend, the governor of the state of Benue, he fr. hyacinth alia, as well as the officials of the government of the tank of the plateau, to offer my condolences on behalf of my family and the good people of my senatorial district, and on behalf of all the Nigerians of Goodwill, above the Dastardly and Calous Massacres who have recently occurred in my states Senators.
“Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, southern Kaduna and some other states have brought the weight of crime, illegality and brutality in a genocidal size and frequency. The insurrection of Boko Haram who read the northern -eastern part of our country for years.”
Senator Dickson said: “It is not acceptable in this country or in any other”, he underlined, “for people wherever they must be attacked, mutilated, killed and the communities plunder at will without consequences, while the rest of the country and the world go on. It is the clearest proof of bankruptcy and collapse of the state.
“At this point, the leadership of this country and the highest hierarchy of security architecture must have a frank and honest conversation on what to do and do it quickly.”
He listed the factors involved in the national security crisis to include competition for resources that led to the clashes of farmers/shepherds, activities of illegal miners, criminal displacements of the natives for the acquisition of land and activities of criminals, kidnappers, bandits and climatic crises.
“While there are elements of bandits and pure crime that have nothing to do with competition for resources, there is also a well -known corner that has to do with perennial clashes between shepherds and farmers in communities from all over the country,” he said.
Senator Dickson promised “to raise these problems with the relevant authorities, in the next day”.
