Napoli are facing a tough time deciding the future of Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen as doubts over his future continue to grow with no solution in sight, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.
Osimhen is interested in leaving the team before the close of the summer transfer window but PSG, who are rumoured to be his preferred destination, are unwilling to pay Napoli’s asking price of €130 million and this has led to an impasse that is hampering the team’s preparation for next season.
Manager Antonio Conte has already drawn up a replacement plan for the 25-year-old Nigerian by getting the club to agree a three-year deal for Romelu Lukaku to join them from Chelsea, but the transfer is on hold because it depends on Osimhen’s departure.
That statement has seen Conte keep the Nigerian out of his tactical, technical and also pre-season games so far and ahead of their Coppa Italia match against Modena later today, the coach excused the Nigerian from his training camp yesterday.
He left the pitch in a taxi, while the rest of the team stayed behind to hone tactics ahead of today’s match, which is the first phase of the Coppa Italia tournament and usually opens the football season in Italy. However, Osimhen will not be involved in the match.
