Japan has dispelled the plans to create a special visa category for the Nigerians willing to move to Kisarazu, a city recently designated as a hometown for the Nigerians.

The director of information, State House, inhabitun Oladunjoye, in a statement released last Friday, said that the government of Japan appointed Kisarazu as hometown for the Nigerians willing to live and work in the country.

Oladunjoye added that, based on the new partnership, he announced on the sidelines of the 9th International Conference of Tokyo for the African development on Thursday 21 August 2025, the Japanese government will create a special visa category for highly qualified, innovative and talented Nigerian young people who want to move to Kisarazu to live and work.

Oladunjoye has observed that craftsmen and other blue -collar workers from Nigeria who are ready for Upskill will also benefit from the visa of special pantry to work in Japan.

He said that the Japanese international cooperation agency (Jica) also appointed the cities of Nagai in the prefecture of Yamagata in the hometown of Tanzania, Sanjo in the prefecture of Niigata in the hometown of Ghana and Imabari in the prefecture of Ehime in the hometown of Mozambique.

He said that the move was part of Japan’s strategic efforts to deepen cultural diplomacy, promote economic growth and improve the productivity of the workforce.

Reacting through a declaration issued on Monday 25 August, the Japanese Foreign Ministry denied the special Visa for the Nigerians.

The Ministry, while confirming the “hometown of Jica Africa”, said that the goal was to strengthen exchanges between African countries and local Japanese governments based on the experience acquired through previous projects.

He said: “Pursuant to this program, Jica plans to promote exchanges between the four Japanese cities and the four African countries through various activities, including the organization of exchange events involving the volunteers of cooperation abroad of the Jica.

“On the other hand, there are no plans to adopt measures to promote the acceptance of immigrants or issue special views for the residents of African countries and the series of relationships and announcements relating to these measures are not real.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan will continue to make efforts to ensure that appropriate relationships and statements are carried out on the matter.”
