With only 25 days who remained up to the kick -off, the final preparations are in full swing for 2024 Totallergies African Nations Championship (Chan), which will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from 2 to 30 August.
This eighth edition of the Biennial Tournament, which presents players in competition exclusively in their national national championships, marks the first time that Chan will be organized in three countries. The event also acts as a critical test for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted by the same trio of Eastern Africa.
Opening match and key places
The tournament will begin on August 2 at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium in Dar Es Salaam, where the host nation Tanzania will face Burkina Faso. The final game is scheduled for August 30 at the Moi International Sports Center in Nairobi, while the third place playoff will take place the day before at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala.
After months of inspection and updates, the Local Organization Committee (Loc) confirmed that all places are fully prepared to host the games. The five stadiums approved are:
Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar ES Salaam – 60,000 skills
Amaan Stadium, Zanzibar – 15,000 skills
Moi International Sports Center, Nairobi – 60,000 skills
Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi – 30,000 capabilities
Mandela National Stadium, Kampala – 42,000 skills
Participating teams and group format
A record of 19 national teams will compete in this year’s championship, divided into four groups. Groups A, B and C contain five teams each, while the group D has four. The first two teams of each group will qualify for the quarter -finals.
Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, Dr Congo, Zambia
Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Republic of Central Africa
Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria, South Africa
Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria
Senegal, the reigning champions, are among the favorites, together with the previous winners of dr. Congo and Morocco. The debutants Kenya and the Republic of Central Africa will try to make a strong impression on home soil.
