The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has rejected a call by take-it-back for a national protest scheduled to be held on Monday
Last week’s group stated a national protest against the imposition of an emergency in the state of Rivers by the President of Bola Tinubu and increasing difficulties in the country.
NYCN, in a statement issued on Monday morning in Kaduna by his president, Isah Abubakar, asked young people in the north not to join the protest.
He warned that such demonstrations could ignite the tension and confuse the country.
While recognizing the rights of Nigerians to start a peaceful demonstration in the midst of the frustration of many Nigerian young people, Abubakar said the council believes that “The current atmosphere calls for restraints, dialogues and national unity, not street protests.”
He said: “We are very concerned about the increasing tension in various regions and increasingly fragile socio-political climate.
“As an organization that is committed to empowering young people, we understand complaints that encourage this call to protest.

“However, we urged calm and peaceful involvement in actions that could worsen the situation.”
Abubakar, who remembered that the protest in the past caused widespread violence, specifically the protest of Endstars was hijacked by criminals, which caused widespread violence, destruction of public infrastructure, and loss of life.
“No one wants a repetition of such a tragic event. Despite the concern filed by the planned protest organizers, national peace and stability must be prioritized.
“We urge fellow Nigerian young people to gather together, not through protests, but through meaningful dialogue and civilian involvement.
“Let’s channel our energy to build a more inclusive and progressive Nigeria.
“We must be patient and be vigilant. The path to lasting change is through a peaceful and strategic action, not chaos,” added President Nycn.
