The National and State Assembly election petition tribunals on Thursday upheld the election of the lawmaker representing Faskari/Sabuwa/Kankara federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Dalhatu Tafoki, in this year’s re-election in Katsina State.
A three-member panel led by Justice KA Ojiaka dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Jamilu Muhammad, as baseless.
The court also ordered Muhammad to pay a fine of N150,000 each to the three respondents.
The respondents were Tafoki, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The applicant alleged that the election that produced Tafoki was marred by various irregularities, excessive thumbprinting, disenfranchisement and non-compliance with election laws.
The court stated that the applicant failed to produce witnesses to prove his case.
The KPU had declared Muhammed the winner of the 2023 election in the constituency, but the Constitutional Court declared the election results inconclusive.
The panel ordered INEC to conduct re-election in 16 polling units in Kankara and four in Faskari local government area of the state.
