Justice Emmanuel Ogundare of the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, on Tuesday, confined #EndBadGovernance protesters to Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota.
They were also confined to the Peace Park in the state’s Ketu area.
The judge gave the order while ruling on an ex parte application filed by the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro.
Pedro in his petition said he had been made aware of the notices from various interests regarding the protest and stressed the need to protect the stateโs infrastructure and prevent irreparable loss of lives and property as witnessed during the #ENDSARS protests in October 2020 in the state.
He argued that the action was taken so that the demonstration would not be hijacked by individuals who intended to violate public order and commit vandalism in various places under the guise of a demonstration.
In his ruling, the judge ruled that the protests scheduled to take place from August 1 to 10 may only take place at approved locations and between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., while still observing the plaintiffsโ โpre-action protocol.โ
He also ordered police to protect the rights of protesters at locations and times approved for protests, rallies and meetings in the state.
