CP/Powa Cup begins with an explosion as Super United Stuns Golden Ultimate

Super United began its campaign in an impressive way with a 2-0 victory over Golden Ultimate in the girls category of the 16th edition of the Kwara Cup Commissioned Police (CP) and the second edition of the Powa Cup, which officially began on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in the Kwara Football Academy field, Ilorina.

The Opening Party marked the beginning of a one -week base football festival aimed at promoting young talents throughout the state.

The tournament, presented for the first time in 2003 by the then Kwara Police Commissioner, Mohammed Diko Abubakar (who later became the inspector General of Police), presents children under 13, boys under 17 and categories of girls under 17 years. This year’s edition has attracted more than 800 youth players, which makes it one of the largest basic soccer meetings in the state.

Speaking after the inaugural party, the president of the Association of Police officers (Powa), Mrs. Catherine Aseri Adekimi, who held the arrest ceremony, expressed satisfaction with the organization and quality of the game exhibited by the girls.

He praised the police commissioner, CP Adekimi Eye, for his unwavering commitment to the empowerment of young people through sports, describing the tournament as a vital tool for community participation and the discovery of talents.

Also speaking at the event, the president of the state of Kwara of the Federation of Youth Sports of Nigeria (YSFON), Mallam Adela Kiyesola, applauded the Kwara State Police command and all interested in their constant support in the development of young athletes and maintaining the spirit of the tournament.

The tournament continues in the next few days with accessories in all categories, while the teams fight for the highest honors and the opportunity to shine in the main basic soccer stage of the state.
