Dangote reacts to the news of Phyna Sister’s death …

The Dangote group expressed deep sadness for the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of the winner of Big Brother Naija, Phyna.

Ruth died on Sunday 31 August 2025, weeks after a car accident that involved one of the company’s trucks near the Polytechnic of Auchi, in the state of Edo.

In a declaration issued shortly after the announcement of his disappearance, the company said: “We are deeply saddened by the disappearance of Ruth Otabor, which was injured in the recent road accident that involved one of our trucks in Auchi, in the state of Edo”.

Dangote Group observed that from the accident, his officials and insurance partners had supported Ruth and his family, covering all financial and medical expenses.

The declaration added that agreements had been made to make it fly abroad for advanced treatment.

“From the accident, our officials and insurance partners were at his side, covering all the financial and doctors costs and supporting his family. Acts had been taken to be transported to India for advanced treatment, pending medical authorization from his doctors,” explained the company.

“Unfortunately, despite these efforts and Ruth’s courageous struggle to live, we lost it today,” said the Dongote group.

The conglomerate reiterated his commitment to security and responsibility in his operations, while extending condolences to the Otabor family.

“In the Dangote Group, safety, responsibility and compassion remain at the center of our operations. We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting people affected in moments of tragedy. He can gain his mercy and eternal rest,” says the declaration.

Ruth’s death was previously confirmed by Eko Solicitors & Advocates on behalf of the Otabor family.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the transition to the glory of her daughter, sister and mother on this 31st day of August 2025 to approximately [sic] 06: 30 hours “, reads in education.

The family added that they were devastated by the tragedy and had requested privacy from Griev.

He observed that the details of Ruth’s funeral agreements would be made public later.

Ruth’s death comes a few weeks after being hit by a heavy truck connected to the Dongote group near Auchi Polytechnic, in the state of Edo, on August 13th.

Witnesses said that the truck crushed the leg before in the end was stopped by a spectator.
