The Delta State Chapter from the Congress of All Progressive (APC) on Thursday condemned the call to support the Governor of Sheriff Oborevwori from the Democratic Party (PDP) for the second term of office in 2027, considered it as “careless” and contradicted the party’s goals.
The controversy was triggered by Francis Walive, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency, who, during the press briefing on Tuesday, praised the efforts to develop Oborevwori since the assumption of the position. The neglect of going further to suggest that APC must adopt the governor as his candidate in the next election, with the reason that Oborevwori is “the most suitable candidate to secure victory for APC in 2027.”
However, Waive’s comments had triggered anger in the State opposition party, which quickly distanced himself from its position.

In a very strong statement, Delta APC, through his publicity secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, rejected Waive’s comments, described them as “serving themselves and fully unrelated to the political reality of the Delta state.”
“We urge our members and the community to ignore Hon’s statements. Waive, because it is not in harmony with the collective determination of the party to shift the PDP and provide governance aimed at people both in the state of the delta,” the statement said.
The party further clarifies that the view of neglect is personal and does not reflect the official attitude of Delta APC or its leadership.
“APC will lead accusations in freeing the state of delta from poor government slavery and failure for decades of PDP,” the party said. “We are sure that the Delta people, after witnessing a sustainable monumental failure from PDP, will strongly support APC candidates for real progress and development.”
