Delta State College of Nursing Sciences has threatened to sanction a student nurse identified as Osato Edobor, for allegedly recording video during the visit of the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, where students did not agree with the songs raised by the ruler of the ceremony called the President’s wife as their ‘mummy’ and posted videos on social media.
This event is part of the updated Hope initiative health program, where 10,000 professional kits are distributed to midwives in the South-South Geopolitical Zone.
In the video that became viral shortly after posted on social media, MC has introduced Mrs. Tinubu as “everyone’s mother,” but the students who responded in unison, singing “Na Your Mama Be This,” which means (she is your mother), refusing to accept the First Lady as their mother.
In a disciplinary request issued for Edobor on Friday, the institution frowned in the courage of students to record the incident and continue to share it on various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok and X (previously Twitter).
In the request signed by the provost of the institution, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, and dated March 27, 2025, Edobor was accused of being involved in “evil actions” by recording himself singing and posting “unofficial response” for a song during the first woman’s arrival at the dome event center in Asaba.
“This is a violation that can be punished as enshrined in a student handbook under the standard discipline for some violations that can be punished No. 8, page 21,” said the Kueri.
Further directing Edobor to send a written explanation in a copy of three hours within 24 hours, justifying why disciplinary actions should not be done to him.
The disciplined queries issued for students have triggered a wide reaction with activists and human rights lawyers including Omoyle Sowore, Deji Adeyanju and Inibehe Effiong swear to take this case in defending students in the case of vikimization of them.
In a post on his X -grip, Sowore said:
“The brave nurse school student who appropriately rejected his wife @officiabat Remi Tinubu in the song” Na Your Mama Be This “must be celebrated, but like the characteristics of the Tinubu repressive era, one of which is targeted to share charming renditions on the Tiktok page.
“We will provide support to this woman with all our physical and legal strength to ensure the authorities at the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences do not commit this terrible action, because injury to one is an injury to all.”
On his party, Effiong wrote:
“The fact that the school of nursing will even contemplate this is very astonishing and embarrassing.”
Also cursing school, Adeyanju wrote on his Facebook page:
“This madness must stop and this is a clear warning for the Delta State College of Nursing to get ready for all of us if they do not attract this insult.”
