Onos Oborewovori, a key member of the National Youth Games committee in Delta State, has announced an exciting Under-17 football programme to hold on August 30 and 31, 2024 at the prestigious Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
The event promises to be a ground-breaking opportunity for young football talents from across Nigeria to showcase their skills on a big stage.
The programme is designed to highlight the best young footballers, offering them a platform to be discovered by top scouts and coaches, including renowned international football scout, Paul Omamomo Ojo, who will coordinate the event.
This initiative is part of Delta State’s broader commitment to fostering grassroots sports and identifying the next generation of soccer stars.
Participating teams will have the chance to win ₦500,000, with additional consolation prizes for the best performing teams.
The stakes are high, however, as the competition applies strict eligibility rules. Only players born between 2010 and 2008 are allowed to participate, and any team fielding over-age players will face automatic disqualification.
The program is open to academies and clubs across the country, with a maximum of 16 players per team. To ensure a smooth and professional event, teams must submit their logos and jersey photos prior to the event to avoid conflicts on match day.
Mr. Paul highlighted the programme’s mission to discover budding talents, saying: “This is a golden opportunity for young players to showcase their skills and take their first step towards a professional football career. Nigeria has a rich pool of football talent and we are committed to giving these youngsters the platform they need to shine.”
Given the ideal location of Asaba, the programme is expected to attract teams from several states, making it a true celebration of youth football in Nigeria.
