Despite Tinubu’s pleas, #EndBadGovernance protests continue as thugs attack demonstrators in Lagos

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s plea for protesters in the ongoing EndBadGovernanceInNigeria movement to shelve their protests and make room for dialogue, protests have continued in some parts of the country.

In Lagos, violence erupted when suspected thugs attacked protesters in an attempt to disperse them from Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, where they had gathered.

Trouble started after Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Okafor, who was addressing the protesters left the venue, followed by other security personnel.

Okafor has pleaded with the protesters to go home and wait for government intervention on their demands.

This caused division among the protesters as some agreed to leave the place, but others insisted on continuing the protest.

A lawyer identified as JP led a group that urged protesters to leave the site and go home, based on President Tinubu’s national address earlier in the day. But Adegboyega Adeniji of Peace Action Transformation led another faction that refused to leave the protest site.

While the argument was going on, a group of people, suspected to be thugs, appeared from across the street and started chasing them.
