Dessers scored one of the most bizarre goals ever — Tony Docherty

Dundee’s manager Tony Docherty was unimpressed with the officials for allowing Cyriel Dessers’ goal to stand.

Dessers is among the five players that scored for Rangers in the 5-0 at the Den Park on Wednesday.

The Nigerian international scored a controversial fourth goal for Rangers, after referee Kevin Clancy appeared to accidentally impede Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan in the build up.

The referee however allowed play to continue, handing Dessers the chance to score his second goal in three games under new boss Phillepe Clement.

Dundee boss Docherty was left stewing on the touchline during the Scottish Premiership showdown.

“The referee fouled Luke McCowan and I’m expecting it to be brought back. But it can’t unless the referee touches the ball,” He told Sky Sports:

“I don’t understand why there can’t be a rule for that. I mean if that’s a Rangers player he’s impeded our player.

“The referee’s actually fouled our player and because of the players’ reaction, they run through and score.

“It’s one of the most bizarre goals I’ve ever seen and the explanation I got for it – even more bizarre.

“I just didn’t understand it and why there isn’t a law against that.”

He added: “The fourth official official told me that unless he touches the ball, they can’t then go to VAR and bring it back again.

“When I asked Kevin, Kevin said yes he did impede the player but he can’t do anything about it which I don’t understand.” He concluded.
