DHQ denied CDS claims to urge Nigerians to carry weapons

The Headquarters of Defense (DHQ) has rejected a report that shows that the defense staff Chief, General Christopher Musa, urged the Nigerians to carry weapons or be involved in possession of firearms that violate the law.

In a statement on Friday, the Director of Defense Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, explained that CD, during a television channel interview on Thursday, only advised citizens to obtain basic self -defense and survival skills to improve personal safety in dealing with insecurity.

According to DHQ, General Musa’s comment was misinterpreted. His call, he said, was that Nigerians develop life skills such as swimming, driving, taekwondo, judo, and boxing, skills described by the military head as useful for resilience and situational awareness.

“To avoid doubts, the CDS does not call for citizens to carry weapons or be involved in ownership of firearms that violate the law. He is fully aware of the Nigerian law that prohibits carrying unauthorized weapons. His message is intended to promote personal resilience, awareness read in financing and valid preparation, not to encourage illegal activities,”.

DHQ further convinced Nigeria that the armed forces and other security institutions made a stable profit in the war against insecurity, emphasizing that the safety of citizens remained a priority for military leadership.
