In a significant step to minimize damage to non -fighters, the defense headquarters (DHQ) reiterated its commitment to prioritize the Civil Protection during military operations.

This was demonstrated with the hosting of the mitigation seminar of the civil damage organized by the DHQ in collaboration with the United States Institute for the governance of security, in Abuja.

In his observations to the closure of the seminar on Wednesday, the head of defense of civil-military relations, the rear admiral Olusanya Bankole, said that the protection of civilians during the operations was fundamental for the military.

Bankole said that the head of the defense staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, had placed a high prize on the safeguarding of civilians, underlining that the protection of innocent lives was an absolute priority in all military operations.

β€œCivil mitigation is essential for our operations right now.

“As you know, unfortunately, Nigeria has fought an insurrection in the last 15 years and has been fought in most populated civil areas.

β€œSome civilians are used as collateral or forced damages.

β€œThat’s why the CDs in his wisdom, as part of his command philosophy, have noticed that he will focus on man or focused on people in his philosophy.

“So it is necessary that we take care of civilians and this is why the United States Institute of Security Governance has now decided to collaborate with the Department of Civil Military Relations of the Defense General Quartier to raise awareness and educate our men on the mitigation of the civil arm,” he said.

Bankole said that the two -day intensive formation was designed to share the lessons learned for the armed forces of Nigeria from which to learn.

According to him, this is close to the heart of the CDs who want to protect civilians and make sure nobody is discriminated against.

He said that the course had participants in all theaters of operations and all services to sensitize them on the need to protect civilians, infrastructures and protect the country’s territorial integrity.

Bankole said that DHQ has improved its non -Kinetic efforts, recognizing the importance of collaboration with local communities in order to win the war against terrorism and other forms of safety threats.

He thanked the team of experts in the United States for impact training, urging the participants to adequately apply the knowledge acquired in achieving the military’s operational objectives in their various operating places.

The guided country, US Institute for Security Government (ISG), retired Maj.-Gen. Miguel Castellanos, said that the mitigation of civil damage was a joint effort of all the actors, in particular the army, the navy and the aeronautics.

Castellanos urged them to improve cooperation to coordinate and understand mutual strengths in order to be successful.

He reiterated the organization’s commitment to continue to collaborate in the Nigerian military to further strengthen his ability in other areas.
