Didi Walson-Jack takes over from Yemi-Esan, pledges to accelerate reforms in the service

 

 

Following the appointment and swearing-in of the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday, the outgoing HoSF, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, CFR, formally handed over the leadership baton to her.

The handover ceremony took place at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), today, Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the date of retirement of Dr. Yemi-Esan, CFR.

In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni thanked Almighty God for taking her to the pinnacle of her career. She also appreciated Mr. President for the trust and confidence reposed in her to serve the nation, promising to honor the achievements of her predecessors by continuing and accelerating the ongoing reform initiatives in the Service.

While reiterating the importance of maximizing technology to drive the transformation of the Service, the new Head of Service promised to maintain, enforce and implement the fundamental principles of the Service, namely: Responsibility, Meritocracy, Professionalism, Loyalty and Efficiency (AMPLE) in all its relationships.

However, he called upon all stakeholders and public employees to support the Vision and Mission of the Service for the realization of the Renewed Hope Program of the current Administration.

Earlier, the retired HoSF, Dr. Yemi-Esan, CFR, had prayed to God to sustain her successor and give her the strength and wisdom to excel, in the overall interest of the Service and Nigeria at large.

It will be recalled that on Monday, August 12, 2024, President Tinubu, before the start of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, swore in the newly appointed HoSF. On that occasion, Mr. President admonished her to serve the nation with integrity and transparency.

Ms Walson-Jack obtained her law degree from the University of Lagos and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.

He began his career in the civil service as a State Advocate in Rivers State in 1992, before becoming Attorney General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Bayelsa State.

HoSF joined the Federal Civil Service in 2009 and was appointed Permanent Secretary in 2017. She has served in several MDAs, including OHCSF, Niger Delta Affairs, Power, Water Resources and Sanitation and most recently Education.

During her tenure at OHCSF, as Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office (SWO), she is credited with initiatives such as the creation of the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) program and significant contributions to labor relations and the national minimum wage.

HoSF is a recipient of the national honor of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) and is an alumna of the prestigious National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. Her vast experience and dedication to service and the country at large are a testament to her many roles and achievements.

She is the author of the novel “Rose tra le thorne”, is happily married and has children.
