DisCo staff electrocuted in Enugu

MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) in Enugu State has confirmed electric shock to one of its staff, Mr Issac Dike.

The deceased was a line judge who served in Ogui District.

MEDL Head of Communications, Mr Emeka Ezeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Enugu.

According to him, the incident occurred on Wednesday at around 15.25 WIB when the deceased was carrying out activities that had not yet been carried out at the 300KVA/11KV/0.415KV distribution substation located at Giraffe Street, Ekulu East Estate (Zoo Estate), Enugu.

Ezeh said the victim’s lifeless body was then taken down from the high voltage pole and taken to the Emergency Unit of the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Colliery, Enugu, where he was confirmed dead.

“The incident was reported to the Abakaliki Road Police Station, Enugu, and the body was later deposited at the mortuary.

“A detailed investigation into the incident will be carried out.

“However, initial findings reveal that the deceased went to the location with a driver assigned to his team, who claimed to be unaware of the specific work activities that brought them to the plantation.

“The driver also admitted that he did not know the identity of the customer who allegedly requested the service.

“Further investigations revealed that the deceased did not inform any of his team members about his transfer to Ekulu East Estate (known as Zoo Estate) for any work-related activities.

“A check of the company’s error reporting records and Complaint Management System (CMS) did not reveal any record of complaints from customers at Ekulu East Estate prior to the incident,” the spokesperson said.
