The workers of a port in the south of France are blocking a shipment of 14 tons of military equipment linked to Israel, their union announced on Thursday.
According to the General Confederation of the Labor (CGT), the workers refused to manage the load to protest against what they described as “the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Israeli government”.
The expedition, according to the reports destined for the Israeli port of Haifa, includes parts of machine guns produced by a company in Marseille.
The CGT claims that these components are used by the Israeli military against the Palestinians in Gaza.
The union said he identified and isolated the container in the port of Fos-sur-Mer, near Marseille.
The French Ministry of Defense has declared that Israel is contractually required to re -export the military equipment and is not authorized to use the components themselves, according to a relationship of France info.
The action of the documents has received support from several French left politicians.
Manuel Bompard, national coordinator of the unbuttoned party of France, praised the move on X (previously Twitter), writing: “Glory to the workers of the port in the port of Marseille-Fos who refuse to load spare parts for machine guns that should have been delivered to the Israeli army”.
Olivier Faure, leader of the socialist party, also expressed support, affirming: “Humanism is not on sale”.
So far the conflict of Gaza has caused the life of at least 54,000 Palestinians, according to the data of the Ministry of Health managed by Hamas.
The war was unleashed by the attacks of 7 October 2023 in Israel, during which around 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 took hostage.
