Medical doctors employed by the Lagos state government have announced the three -day warning strikes scheduled to begin on Monday, July 28, 2025, to protest the alleged reduction of their salaries by the state they described as violating the law and disrespectful.
The doctors under the auspices of the Lagos State Medical Guild that made the announcement during the press briefing on Saturday, said the strike had become important after an attempt to resolve disputes through failed dialogue.
The Chairman of the alliance, Dr. Japhet Olugbogi, who gave a speech at a press conference, said that the warning strikes will last until Thursday, July 31, 2025
He explained that disputes about their salary reduction began in April 2025, when the state government unilaterally reduced the salary of medical officers and teeth without previous consultations.
He noted that although many of their members initially demanded direct strikes, Guild’s leadership chose to pursue a more diplomatic route through negotiations and advocacy.
“Following the ongoing involvement, the reduced reduction, and the Conciliation Committee of six members, consisting of representatives from the guild and the government, was established,” Olugbogi said.
“It is agreed that all parties will maintain the status quo until the resolution is reached.”

Registering conditions that will make the guild to override the strike, Dr. Olugbogi says:
“The fellowship requires a direct reversal from the reducing salary of July
“Full payment for the revised Conmess arrears 12 months owed to the Honorary Consultant at the Lagos State University of Lasuth.”
The fellowship also issued an ultimatum 21 days, warning that failure to meet its demands can cause unlimited attacks.
“It is very disappointing that the most senior medical doctor in the State system of Lagos produces less than $ 1,100. Instead of supporting our members, the government cuts from their inadequate income. This cannot be continued,” he said.
However, he appealed to the Governor of Babajide Sanwo-Olu to immediately intervene to prevent the collapse of health care delivery throughout the state.
According to Dr. Olugbogi, an increasingly larger instability in the state health sector, exacerbated by the economic difficulties and ex -medical professional exodus of Nigeria. Guild, more than 385 doctors participated in the Emergency Congress where the strike was ratified in a round voice.
