Doctor Resident suspended strikes in Anambra

The Resident Doctor Association (ARD) in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOuth), Awka, at Anambra State, has suspended attacks on seven days commemoration.

The association announced the suspension of strikes in a statement issued on Saturday at AWKA by its chairman, Dr. Joy Okwumuo, and Secretary, Dr. Chukwubuike Ifekudu.

The doctors began warning strikes on Thursday to reduce better working conditions.

In the statement, the association directed its members to continue their duties on Saturday after a dispute resolution with the state government.

The statement reads: “The decision to suspend the strike follows the approval for the release of medical residency training funds and 100 percent review of the medical salary scale of consolidated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the end of September.

“The governor also approved the allowance for DPR officers, rural posts for departments that were previously passed, equipment, and specialist allowances from Conmess 5 Step 5 for doctors of the population.

“The government also approved the payment of arrears accumulation, including arrears of 2024 danger allowances that were previously passed.”

The association reiterates its commitment to work with the Head of the Hospital Medical Director to implement an approved decision.
