‘Don’t fail in democracy,’ Dele Momodu wars Tinubu for the imposition of emergency rules in the river

Ovation magazine publisher Dele Momodu, on Monday condemned the imposition of emergency rules at Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

The President, on March 18, stated an emergency in the river and suspended several people, including Governor Siminilayi Fubara and members of the Council Council, for the prolonged political crisis in the state.

He also appointed a former Navy Chief of Staff, Deputy Admiral Ibok -te Ibas, as the only state administrator.

Momodu, who appeared on the television program of the channel, said he and others “who struggled for the return of democracy ashamed that Tinubu suspected Fubara and members of the state parliament.

He accused that the president had intimidated the governor and opposition leader to get their support in the 2027 election.

Journalists who changed to politicians warned that Nigeria drove into dictators under Tinubu.

He said: “I think it is very unfortunate. I know President Tinubu very well. Even though I have not been at the same party as him and all of that, we are together in exile, and he struggles with dashing with this democracy.

“Many of us, the co-comrades at that time, were actually very ashamed that we had a pro-democracy leader in government, however, what we witnessed was worse than dictatorship.

“I have said it openly many times in many open letters: you can fail in the economy, no problem; people will forgive you and say you are not an economic professor. You can fail in other fields, but don’t fail in democracy.

“You must deepen our democracy, which was successfully carried out by President Goodluck Jonathan, who was successfully carried out by Baba Obasanjo, regardless of the accusations and accusations of the third term of office, still succeeded in handing over power to President Yar’adua.

“In less than two years in this government, and we witnessed the crisis after the crisis, only because some people wanted a second term.

“I begged the Tinubu Bola President, ‘Please don’t kill democracy in Nigeria’. All people who love him will tell him. I have not asked anything, but we love him for his contribution to democracy in the past, which is now in vain.

“What I see now is an attempt to force all governors in Nigeria to follow him with fire and strength. That’s wrong.”
